A former Youth football coach in Philadelphia has been arrested on multiple counts of child abuse and sexual assault. Leon Watson, 24, is being held on $500,000 bail after police arrested him in his home last week on charges of rape and sexual abuse. Police were given anonymous tips of the possible sexual abuse of two brothers, ages 8 and 9, who had moved into Watson’s home in October.
Watson was a part-time coach for the Rhawnhurst Raiders youth football team as well as the coach of a local neighborhood youth football team, ‘Little Vicks’. Police are urging parents whose children participated in these organizations to speak with their children as they believe there may be more victims. The Rhawnhurst Raiders used to conduct background checks, but eliminated this critical procedure in recent years. Now, they say they are planning to reinstate the background screenings immediately for all coaches and volunteers. Click here to read the full story from ABC News.
