Frequently Asked Question’s
Q: How much is it to perform a background screening and are there discounts?
A: Pricing for a background screening is determined based on the elements requested, the jurisdiction(s), and volume. SSCI pricing is consistently below that of the industry. We do offer a very popular flat fee screening package that has been adopted by hundreds of agencies and organizations throughout the US.
Q: What is the turn around time once I have submitted a screening(s)?
A: Turn around time is based primarily on the jurisdiction being researched. Our average turn around time is three days.
Q: What if the individual has been convicted somewhere outside my County/State?
A: The “Smart Check” targets the most logical geographical location to perform the criminal record check. In addition to this, Let's Check for America will search in 50 states for additional conviction data. This gives your organization the most comprehensive and cost effective screening available. While there is no program that can guarantee complete nationwide record checks, this screening goes beyond the typical employee background screening commonly conducted in the private sector. SSCI has found that over 13% of all crimes are found outside the applicant’s current State of residence.
Q: What options are available to request and receive results?
A: SSCI allows for customization of data transmission from faxing in a consent form to electronic online client transmission.
Q: What is required when we exclude an individual based upon the results of his/her criminal record?
A: SSCI will help the organization develop the policy to use when it comes to disqualifications. It is recommended that the agreed upon disqualifiers be included in the written policy, and/or Bylaws etc. It is also the duty of the Organization to provide a copy of their report, along with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Q: What if the individual wants to dispute the results that appear on the Profile Report?
A: The individual may dispute the results by calling SSCI at the phone number listed on the profile report. We will then work with the applicant regarding the claim and subsequent findings. SSCI follows all FCRA guidelines when an individual is disputing any and all findings.
Q: Will we have complimentary access to receive technical assistance directly from SSCI relative to criminal background checks?
A: A representative of SSCI will be available to answer any questions concerning background screening at no additional charge.
Q: Does SSCI provide suggested disqualifiers?
A: Yes, please contact our office for details on the NRPA national recommended disqualifiers.
Q: How often do background checks need to be done?
A: For volunteers we recommend background checks be performed annually. Most volunteers are seasonal and it is impossible to know if they have had any criminal arrests throughout the year.
